Application Guidelines – 2020 –  Funded Residency

Please note: national artists are not eligible to apply for the residencies in this round.

This particular call is thematically connected to our national celebrations of 75 years of freedom. It has been 75 years since the Netherlands was freed from German occupation during WWII. This funded residency will be organized in close collaboration with one of the Netherlands largest annually held festivals called the ‘Bevrijdingsfestival’. Each year on the 5th of May, we celebrate that our country was liberated in 1945.

Our 2020 Funded Residency Programme focuses on both the festive side of freedom as well as discussing the paradox that it delivers.  Merely applauding for the sake of freedom will not need a critical mindset. The world around us makes it blatantly clear that freedom has become a commodity. We can only wholeheartedly celebrate freedom if we are capable of critically looking at the contextual mechanism that defines it. So let’s take a hard look at current developments, future perspectives and honor the past in the process.

Your work will be showcased during the Bevrijdingsfestival and afterwards at the Anningahof Estate and Sculpture Park. The sculpture will be placed either in public space or a space open to the public.

Updates on the residency will be posted online through our channels on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and on our website. A closed group for those specifically interested in the XYZ-SCULPTAiR has been made on Facebook.

This Call for Artists has closed (deadline: 28th of February):

  • XYZ-SCULPTAiR (visual art): a freestanding sculpture thematically portraying the dualism freedom beholds. Suitable for outdoor placement in public space.

*Please be aware that we expect candidates to work on their own without the help of assistants. Help from students can be negotiated and involvement from schools, students and young professionals is an integral part of the programme.

*We encourage the reuse of materials, circular building methods and will embrace applicants who incorporate durability in their proposals.
